Digitizing Quality Control for a Pipe Fitting Manufacturer

Case Study: Digitizing Quality Control for a Pipe Fitting Manufacturer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Client: Confidential Pipe Fitting Manufacturer
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Industry: Industrial Manufacturing – Pipe Fittings
Focus Areas: Inspection Management • Quality Control • ERP Integration • Digital Transformation

Overview

A leading pipe fitting manufacturer in Baton Rouge sought to modernize its inspection and quality control process, which was previously managed through a heavily paper-based system. As the facility scaled operations, tracking inspections and maintaining production visibility across thousands of work orders became increasingly difficult and error-prone.

The manufacturer partnered with Osprey to develop a custom software application designed to digitize the inspection workflow, improve real-time visibility, and integrate seamlessly with existing ERP and plant systems.

The Challenge

The facility’s inspection process involved dozens of quality checks throughout the production lifecycle of each fitting. With thousands of active work orders at any given time, the paper-based system created bottlenecks and left room for:

  • Lost or incomplete inspection records

  • Manual data entry errors

  • Delayed visibility for production and quality assurance teams

  • Disconnected workflows between the plant floor and ERP system

The client needed a solution that would centralize data, streamline inspection logging, and connect directly with real-time operations.

Osprey’s Solution

Osprey designed and deployed a tablet-friendly software application tailored for plant inspectors and production teams. Key features included:

  • Digital Inspection Logging: Inspectors now use rugged tablets to capture quality data on the plant floor—eliminating the need for paper checklists and reducing transcription errors.

  • ERP & Plant System Integration: The application integrates with the manufacturer’s ERP and plant management systems, consuming live Work Order data to keep inspection records synchronized with operations.

  • Real-Time Dashboards: Production and quality teams gain immediate visibility into inspection status, non-conformance trends, and work order progression.

  • Workflow Automation: The system enforces inspection checkpoints and ensures that no stage of the manufacturing process is missed or skipped.

Value Delivered

Tracked Quality Control Across 1,000+ Work Orders
The software enables the plant to monitor inspections across thousands of active jobs, ensuring consistent documentation and compliance.
